ICON is seeking a Product Test Technician III to lead the operation, integration, and troubleshooting of complex test systems. This role involves building and maintaining test infrastructure, fabricating advanced test articles, collaborating with engineering teams on system improvements, and mentoring junior technicians. The position is based in Austin, TX, with travel to job sites as needed to support troubleshooting and system upgrades.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead setup, operation, and troubleshooting of mechanical, fluid, and electro-mechanical test systems.
- Support development and implementation of ICON’s test infrastructure, including test stands, fluid systems, and processes.
- Fabricate and integrate test articles and equipment: fluid panels, actuators, motors, gears, electrical cabinets, PLCs, and welded assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineering to develop system upgrades, maintain documentation, and analyze test data with actionable recommendations.
- Mentor and guide junior Product Test Technicians.
- Travel to ICON job sites to support on-site testing, repair, and troubleshooting.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associates in mechatronics, mechanical engineering technology, or relevant field preferred).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or fluid system testing.
- Strong fabrication, assembly, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Experience with mechanical tools, welding, fasteners, and gear assemblies.
- Intermediate proficiency with PLC systems (Beckhoff Twincat preferred).
- Strong collaboration, communication, and mentorship skills.
- Experience with pumps, AC motors, gears, air compressors, pressure vessels, and lifting equipment.
- Welding experience (AC Aluminum, DC Steel).
- Prior experience in aerospace, military/defense, aircraft, construction, or similar industries.
- A&P license or technician certification.
PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in extreme environments, including high or low temperatures, sun, rain, mud, or areas without electricity.
- Comfortable with hands-on, field-based work.
