Senior Field Engineering Technician

ICON is looking to add a Senior Field Engineering Technician to our Field Engineering team. As a Senior Field Engineering Technician, you will be responsible for handling the most complex and challenging aspects of commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining ICON's 3D printers and support systems. They independently resolve high-impact issues, proactively prevent escalation, and consistently contribute to the development of best practices.Senior Field Engineering Technicians are recognized for their deep technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and ability to mentor and guide junior team members. They operate with strategic decision-making, ensuring projects run smoothly, safely, and to ICON’s high standards. Operational discipline, excellent communication, and precise documentation are expected at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently resolve complex electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and software issues with minimal escalation
  • Lead preventive maintenance, routine inspections, job site setup, and execution of complex repairs or replacements
  • Expertly work with PLCs, VFDs, hydraulics, and electrical systems to ensure reliable printer performance
  • Document all work clearly and review junior technicians’ reports to ensure accuracy, compliance, and consistency with ICON standards
  • Mentor and train junior technicians, review their work for quality, and guide teams through daily field activities
  • Collaborate with Print Operators and Engineering teams to implement Engineering Change Orders and identify long-term solutions to recurring issues
  • Independently lead field projects, manage operations, and make strategic decisions to resolve high-impact issues in real time
  • Willingness to travel outside of Austin, TX, for multiple weeks at a time.
  • Flexible availability to work nights and weekends as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience working in a Field Technician facing role or an associate degree with 4+ years of field technician experience or bachelors degree with 2+ years field technician experience.
  • Expert proficiency in PLCs, VFDs, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • OSHA 10, CPR, and Telehandler certifications.
  • Proven ability to lead operations, manage projects independently, and mentor junior technicians
  • Experience managing external projects, including generator setup and troubleshooting
  • Strong ability to prioritize, adapt, and perform in dynamic, high-pressure environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to produce clear documentation and reports
  • Ability to guide teams through daily activities including operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance

PHYSICAL / ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely and regularly.
  • Comfortable working in various outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures (above 100°F or below freezing), sun, rain, mud, and areas with limited infrastructure (e.g., lack of electricity).
  • Comfortable standing and moving on your feet for the majority of the workday as well as climbing ladders and carrying material buckets.
