Senior Roboticist II, Off- Planet Systems

ICON is looking for a Senior Roboticist to join our Off-Planet Systems team. As a Senior Roboticist you will be responsible for the programming and operation of a large industrial robot and other equipment. The context of this work will primarily be process development. This role is based locally at ICON’s Austin, TX laboratories, and will report to the Director of Robotics in the Off-Planet Systems Department.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with ICON’s Off-Planet Process team to define behaviors to explore and develop several high temperature regolith processing technologies.
- Design and develop innovative robotic systems for operations in extraterrestrial environments
- Write and execute test procedures.
- Write test reports and bring data, information and recommendations to members of the process team; participate in process refinement and fixture improvements.
- Maintain complex electro-mechanical hardware.
- Program robotic arm motions in coordination with other systems.
- Maintain safe working conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years of recent experience in the aerospace or industrial robotics industry.
- Hands-on experience with robotic platforms, sensors, actuators, localization, perception, and control systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in robotics, such as C++, Python, or ROS.
- Strong knowledge of autonomy algorithms, robotics frameworks, and simulation environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Experience programming industrial robots in high level languages.
- Experience in foundries.
- Experience designing circuits and wiring industrial sensors.
- Experience in formal control theory.
- Familiarity with hardware design, prototyping, and manufacturing processes is beneficial.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset to identify issues, propose innovative solutions, and make data-driven decisions.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of performance.
